The Joys of Fall

Gathering Leaves by Robert Frost
 Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.
 But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.

I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use.
But a crop is a crop,
And who's to say where
The harvest shall stop?

FALL IN ALL ITS GLORY

Happy Thanksgiving from The RKM Foundation

HAPPY THANKSGIVING  FROM THE  RKM FOUNDATION
I was heading to work and this gorgeous fellow was blocking traffic, pecking at my car door and every other car that stopped to allow them to cross the street. I couldn't resist taking a picture. This brought back so many fun childhood memories: growing up in Jamaica we had two turkeys who were pets and were overly protective of our entire family.  We named them Jack & Jill.

No we never ate them; they died of old age. ( I know someone was thinking that we did:-)) Wild turkeys are beautiful, please take the little ones to the zoo to see them or if they happen to be strolling through your back yard admire them for the gorgeous birds they are—even if they are a little silly from time to time.

Much love & Walk Good.

The RKM Foundation Third Annual Toy and Book Drive

Family, it's that time of the year again, the leaves are changing, the air is crisp, sweet smell of fresh apples and apple cider can be found everywhere. The kids are eager to go apple picking, take one too many hayrides or pick the perfect lopsided pumpkin to put on the porch.

It is hard to believe that we can now reminisce about Halloween, only a few weeks ago the door  bells rang constantly with the trick or treaters in adorable costumes.
Along with the festivities of the season we celebrate the birth of our brother Rohan Keil Miller whose memory we honor by giving back and raising awareness of underprivileged children in rural Jamaica.

Rohan's birthday was on October 20th; he would have been 42 years old. In keeping with tradition it also signified the launch of our 3rd annual book and toy drive which we have seen tremendous growth in its outreach and collection because of your generosity and willingness to bring joy to so many children in Jamaica.

Collection has already started and will continue until February 17th, 2015!!! Our collection box is already  up at the Morris Plain library, located at 77 Glenbrook Road, Morris Plains NJ. Pick ups can be scheduled within Morris and Essex county, send us an email or visit our website.

Much love & walk good.

Summertime, and the livin' is easy

Listening to Ella Fitzgerald singing "Summertime" always makes summer seem that much better. The song conjures up images of lazy hot summer days, relaxing by a pool, creek or beach with nothing but the sounds of the childhood laughter, adults chatter and time standing still. Everyone yearning for the cool summer night to break the heat of day and for the nighttime festivities to begin.

AHHHHHHH, summertime...the livin' is indeed easy.

"Summertime, and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high

Oh, your daddy's rich and your ma is good-lookin'

So hush little baby, Don't you cry

One of these mornings you're gonna rise up singing

And you'll spread your wings and you'll take to the sky

But 'til that morning, there ain't nothin' can harm you

With Daddy and Mammy standin' by..."

Family, I hope you are  enjoying  all that summer has to offer. Take the time to unwind with family and friends. Here are a few images of HAPPY children to make you smile. HAPPY SUMMER LOVES.

Uniting for a common cause

This is our second year being associated with the Jamaica Impact Inc., (JAMPACT) annual school supplies and toy drive. We are excited to once again be involved with an organization that mirrors our mission and goals. The boxes have been placed in various locations across the tri-state area and donations are coming in. Your generosity  makes it possible for us to impact the lives of so many children.

Since our inception in 2010 we have sought to join forces with like minded organizations as our desire is to function within a community working towardsa common goal of helping children to have a better future. Our mission statement outlines our reason for giving. Today we want to pose this question to YOU!
WHY DO YOU GIVE?

We look forward  to your responses.

The RKM Foundation Distribution 2014 Photos!

These are photos from RKM Foundation Third Annual Distribution (2014). The experience humbles and motivates us to do more as we continue to help spark the imagination of rural Jamaica's many underprivileged schoolchildren with the help of donated toys, books, and school supplies.
As always, consider making a donation or like our Facebook page! To date, we've impacted over 7,000 Jamaican schoolchildren and over 40 schools.)
